Manatís developed on the 14th. edition of the International Congress of Chemistry and Environment

Manatís successfully developed on the 14th. edition of the International Congress of Chemistry and Environment, at the World Trade Center in Barcelona, ​​jointly organized by the Catalan Chemical Society and the Royal Spanish Chemical Society, in addition to the collaboration of the American Chemical Society.

More than 500 scientists from 54 different countries participated in this edition. There was a welcome reception at the Institute of Catalan Studies with the presence of its president Mr. Salvador Giner, and an official opening at the World Trade Center of the port of Barcelona, ​​seat of the Congress, with the presence of Josep Enric Llebot, secretary of Environment and Sustainability of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The reason for the congress was concern about the environmental situation as a consequence of human activities related directly or indirectly to chemistry. There were different symposia that dealt, for example, with atmospheric pollution, especially sediment and water pollution; transformation and fate, toxicological consequences, treatment, disposal and modeling of; and the development of a new type of green and sustainable chemistry.

This edition was attended by renowned researchers of international prestige such as David Sedlak, from the University of California; Urs Baltensperger, from Paul Scherrer Institute in Viligin (Switzerland), or Joan Grimalt i Damià Barceló, from l’IDAEA-CSIC in Barcelona. We have also organized an exclusive and free assistance visit to the Montserrat mountain environment with more than 155 attendees, where not only were the surrounding buildings visited, but there was a dinner with typical products and Catalan cuisine.

Throughout the event there was a constant proposal by young Chemistry PhDs from around the world and their great professionals to seek ways to improve the environmental situation as a consequence of human activities and in direct and indirect relationship with chemistry.
